The new Z21 XL series has been especially adapted for the requirements of large gauges (0, 1, 2, G), and unites the advantages and the convenience of the Z21 system with high output voltages. In terms of the control centre scope of functions, the Z21 XL Series primarily differs from the Z21 through the track output with 6 Amperes of main track current. However, the rail voltage cannot be adjusted, and is dependent on the power supply unit used. In addition, the Z21 XL Series features a Z-CAN for a high number of Z21 XL boosters.

What an excellent piece of kit the Z21XL is. I originally had an ESU EcoS, but after it destroyed itself shortly after a firmware update, the system got extremely hot and fried the internal components without even running the layout.

The stockist (not DCC Train Automation) refused to deal with its repair, and I was told to send it directly back to ESU in Germany. So, after chatting with James at DCC Train Automation about my experience, he gave me different options for a new system for my specific needs and I made my choice of the Z21XL.

What an amazing piece of kit it is. I use the system in conjunction with an iPad at the moment, and will be expanding it later on with more Z21 accessories as I progress in the building of my O gauge layout.

During layout operations I can sit back in my chair and control everything via the iPad using the Z21 app, which itself is very easy to use and to program decoders. On top of that, Roco has a YouTube channel with videos showing how to do various things with the Z21 range of products.

I highly recommend anyone starting out with DCC control, or needing something specific, to give DCC Train Automation a call and have a chat for a system that would be suitable for your needs.
